A Short Run From Our Yard

Caernarfon is close to home. Our yard at Brynsiencyn is a short run down the Menai Strait, which makes the town and its surrounding villages, Bontnewydd, Y Felinheli, Llanrug, Waunfawr and out towards Dinas Dinlle, one of our quickest and most regular working areas.

This is slate country in the fullest sense. The Dinorwig and Penrhyn quarries built these roofs, and much of the original covering is still up there: thick, hard Welsh slate that outlasted the nails holding it on and the battens under it. Repairing that properly means reclaimed Welsh slate, not a modern substitute that looks wrong within a year.

The town also has the full spread of everything else: the tight historic streets around the castle and the walls, Victorian terraces spreading out from the centre, post-war estates on the edges, and a good number of flat-roofed extensions of every vintage.

Response Times To Caernarfon

Caernarfon is one of the shortest journeys we make. Free surveys are usually available within a few days, and often sooner if there is water coming in.

The 24/7 emergency call-out service covers the town and surrounding villages. Call-outs are typically £150 to £250 depending on the time of day and location, agreed on the phone before we set off.

Our own scaffold towers travel with us, so small jobs in the town, a slipped slate, a length of gutter, a flashing, do not sit waiting on a scaffolding firm's diary.

Caernarfon Property Types

Historic town-centre property

Old stone buildings inside and around the walls, with narrow access, shared party walls and original slate that needs matching exactly.

Victorian slate terraces

Long runs of Welsh slate with shared valleys and party-wall flashings, generally at the age where nails rather than slate are the problem.

Estate and post-war housing

Concrete tiles, mortar-bedded ridges and verges that crack and loosen on exposed edges of the town.

Coastal and rural properties

Farmhouses, cottages and coastal homes towards Dinas Dinlle taking wind and salt off Caernarfon Bay with nothing in the way.

Why Choose Us In Caernarfon

We are nearly local

Brynsiencyn is minutes away across the Strait. Short journeys mean quicker surveys and no argument about coming back to finish a detail.

Reclaimed Welsh slate is our specialty

In a town built from slate, matching the existing covering is the whole job. We source and sort reclaimed Welsh slate as standard.

Three generations of the same family

William started roofing at sixteen following his father, and his brothers work on the team. The name on the van is the family doing the work.

Free survey, fixed price, guaranteed

No charge to look, a fixed price rather than a day rate, workmanship guaranteed and 25 years on a new roof.

What Fails On Caernarfon Roofs

Roofs fail differently in different places. These are the conditions that decide how a roof in Caernarfon wears out, and what a repair here has to be built to survive.

Book the free survey
  • Nail sickness in original slate

The single most common finding here. Century-old ferrous nails corrode through while the slate is still perfectly serviceable, so the roof lets go a course at a time rather than wearing out.

  • Wind off Caernarfon Bay and the Strait

Open water on two sides means sustained westerly loading. Verges, ridges and the exposed gable end take it first and hardest.

  • Cement where lead belongs

Old cement fillets to chimneys and abutments crack against the stone, take water in and leak somewhere entirely unrelated to the stain inside.

  • No underfelt on older roofs

Many town roofs were built without any secondary barrier. One slipped slate and wind-driven rain is straight onto the ceiling below.

Caernarfon Roofing Questions

The questions we are asked most by customers in Caernarfon: coverage, timing, cost and what happens out of hours.

Ask us directly on 07538 586813
Do you cover Caernarfon?

Yes, and it is one of our closest areas. Our yard at Brynsiencyn is a short run away, and we cover the town plus Y Felinheli, Bontnewydd, Llanrug, Waunfawr and the surrounding villages.

How quickly can you get to Caernarfon?

Very quickly; it is one of the shortest journeys we make. Free surveys are typically a few days away and emergency call-out runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

How much is an emergency call-out?

Typically £150 to £250 depending on the time of day and your location, agreed before we travel.

Can you match the original Welsh slate on my roof?

In most cases yes. Reclaimed Welsh slate is a specialty and matching thickness, size and coursing is part of the job.

My slates keep slipping. Do I need a whole new roof?

Not necessarily. If the slate is sound but the nails have corroded, the roof can often be stripped, re-battened, felted and relaid with the same slate, which is cheaper than new material and correct for the building. The survey tells you which situation you are in.

Does a survey cost anything in Caernarfon?

No. Surveys and quotes are always free, and you keep the photographs and written findings whether or not you go ahead.

Do you work on old stone buildings in the town centre?

Yes. We have worked on multiple listed buildings in Betws-y-Coed and William's own listed home in Llangefni was fully refurbished by the team, so old buildings and awkward access are familiar work.

Do you carry out chimney restoration and other home improvement work?

Yes: chimney restoration including cast caps, repointing, rendering and full stack rebuilds, plus general home improvement work.

What guarantee do I get?

Workmanship guaranteed on all work, and new roofs guaranteed for 25 years.
